The Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design has established agreements with a number of primarily undergraduate liberal arts schools in the United States to allow their students to take advantage of the Cooperative Program in Architecture. Cooperative Program students are able to begin their architectural studies at Washington University in St. Louis during their senior year while still enrolled as undergraduates. Their undergraduate degrees will come from the home institution where they reside for three years, yet they include within their four-year baccalaureate degree program one year of study at Washington University in St. Louis.
Please note that planning a schedule of classes to accommodate the Cooperative Program should start early in college enrollment. There are a number of classes, including a four-semester sequence of studio art classes, necessary for appropriate preparation to apply.
If students perform well in their first year as undergraduates at Washington University they can expect to receive approval to continue architectural study as candidates for the Master of Architecture (MArch) degree. Applications for admission to the graduate program are submitted by February 1 of the undergraduate year spent at Washington University. Graduate study proceeds for an additional 3 years, leading to the completion of a professional, accredited Master of Architecture degree from Washington University.
Students who pursue graduate study after a conventional liberal arts baccalaureate degree normally need 3 1/2 years to complete the MArch, so participation in the Cooperative Program will help to accelerate completion of that program.
