Learn about the Summer 2009 program
The Alberti Program-Architecture for Young People is a problem-solving studio workshop about architecture, community, and the environment for fourth- through ninth-grade students from schools in the St. Louis Public School District.
Questions about sustainable design are an underlying theme throughout the workshop. Students get hands-on experience tackling 2- and 3-dimensional problems in architectural design, with an eye toward the greater environment. They also are introduced to the field of architecture through lectures, discussions, and reviews about design projects, and use libraries and computer labs on campus.
Gay Lorberbaum, Affiliate Associate Professor of Architecture, leads the curriculum, and Washington University graduate and undergraduate students in architecture serve as teaching assistants.
The workshops will be held every Saturday afternoon from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters of the academic year at Washington University.
From the second Monday in June through the first week in July, the workshops will be held daily from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Although the program is free, selection is limited to students chosen by their principals and teachers.
