Biography

Jenny Lovell, assistant professor of architecture, has taught at the University of Michigan and at the University of Virginia. She is a registered architect in the United Kingdom, holding RIBA part III with distinction. Specializing in the design, development, and application of building envelope strategies in the United States and the United Kingdom, she has worked for the London firms Allies and Morrison Architects, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris Architects, and Arup Associates, as well as for William McDonough + Partners in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her current research examines the integration of environmental systems within the large-scale building envelope, demonstrating the iterative loop between technical analysis and design decision-making. She is the author of Building Envelopes: An Integrated Approach, scheduled for release by Princeton Architectural Press in June 2010. The book is a process-based toolkit for both practitioners and academics that advocates designing building envelopes in an integrated way, where appearance, use, context, energy performance, structure, and cost are inseparable and considered in tandem.
