Session 1: June 14-27, 2009
Session 2: July 5-18, 2009
Washington University campus
The Architecture Discovery Program is an exciting introduction to architecture and design for high school students between their junior and senior year. Design studio, the heart of the program, focuses upon how creativity and discovery can foster passion and compassion in design. You will also learn how sustainability and the importance of the environment are shaping the practice of architecture. If you are interested in architecture and the environment, this program is for you.
Activities for the program are divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Mornings will include a field trip to a construction site, visits to architecture offices and drawing. Afternoon sessions are set aside for studio work. During our two-week program, you will initiate and work on an architectural design, developing it for a final review.
Weekend field trips will allow you to visit some of the finest architecture in the St. Louis region including the Gateway Arch by Eero Saarinen and the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts by Tadao Ando.
